The exact comment, not the post
A reply attaches to a comment, and a reply to a reply is a different object again. Resolving post, then comment, then the exact thread is what makes the answer land under the right person instead of at the bottom of the post where nobody sees who it was for.
Already answered is a state you can read
You may have replied from your phone this morning. Before drafting, the agent reads the replies under the comment and looks for one of yours; if it finds it, there is nothing to do. That check is what stops the same person being answered twice, publicly.
Public replies carry your name
A comment reply is visible to everyone reading the post, which is why drafting and approving beats automating it outright. The assistant is good at reading a hundred comments and proposing eight answers; you are the one who knows what the brand can say.
From a comment to a DM
The natural next step is private: answer publicly, then continue in the inbox. That is a separate explicit action, one person at a time, and never a sweep over everyone who commented — which would be indistinguishable from spam.
Comments are public proof, not just replies
An answered comment thread is read by everyone who lands on the post afterwards, long after the conversation ended. That is why the eight real questions deserve a real answer rather than a thanks — and why a generic reply under a specific question is worse than none: it is visible, permanent and unmistakably automated.
