Instagram + Zapier

Connect Instagram to Zapier

Instagram automations normally route through Meta’s Graph API, which requires a Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page and only covers conversations the other person started. Nilyo connects the account you already use.

How to connect

On the Zapier Apps page add an MCP Client connection: Server URL https://nilyo.com/mcp, Transport Streamable HTTP, OAuth Yes. A browser window opens to authorize, using the same Nilyo sign-in ChatGPT and Claude use — no Zapier-specific account, and one connection covers every account you connected in Nilyo.

What the Graph API route costs you

A Business or Creator account, a linked Facebook Page, an app review for messaging permissions, and a reply window. For a shop or a creator answering DMs that is a lot of scaffolding before the first useful Zap. Connecting your own account removes all of it.

Read the profile before the reply

Instagram DMs are short and ambiguous. A Zap that answers on the text alone will send a price list to someone asking about a delivery. Chain a profile read on the sender before the draft step — it is one extra call and it is what makes the answer right.

A hundred actions a day, spaced

Writes are budgeted per account and calls are serialized with a short delay, enforced server-side. A Zap iterating over yesterday’s DMs cannot fire fifty replies in a minute; it gets an explicit limit error. Instagram reacts to rhythm as much as to volume.

A realistic Zap

A new DM arrives; the Zap reads the thread and the sender’s profile, classifies the message, and either drafts a reply for approval or posts it to a team channel. Replying automatically to everything is how a brand account ends up restricted.

Trigger on a message, not on a schedule

A polling Zap checks the inbox on an interval whether or not anything happened, which costs runs and delays the answer. A realtime destination pushes the new DM to the Zap as it arrives, carrying the identifiers to read the thread, so the reply goes out in seconds and the schedule stops burning tasks.

“When a DM arrives, read the sender’s profile and post the summary to a team channel.”
“Classify overnight DMs and draft answers for the real questions.”

Common questions

Do I need a Business or Creator account?

No. That requirement belongs to Meta’s Graph API. Nilyo connects the account you already use, whatever its type.

Can a Zap reply to a DM?

Yes, as an explicit step. Drafting first and approving is the safer pattern on a public-facing inbox.

Is the account at risk?

The daily budget and the serialized calls make bursts impossible by accident, which is the behaviour that gets Instagram accounts restricted.

How Instagram works with Nilyo

Connection. Secure hosted sign-in on your own Instagram account; a verification code may be requested by Instagram on the provider side, never in the chat.

What your agent can do. Direct messages (read, reply, send), profile lookup, followers and following lists, your own profile.

Pacing and safety. About 100 actions per day per account, calls serialized.

  • Instagram limits new conversations with people who do not follow you; the agent says so instead of retrying.
