What connecting gives you
The direct inbox first: list conversations, read a thread, see who is writing. Then the people around it — a public profile, your followers, who you follow — and posting or commenting where the account supports it. The inbox is what most people actually use, because that is where customers ask questions.
No Business account required
The Graph API route needs a Business or Creator account tied to a Facebook Page, and even then it covers only conversations a customer started, inside a reply window. A personal account is out of scope entirely. Here the account you already use is the account that gets connected, whatever its type.
A three-word DM needs context
Most Instagram messages are short. Whether one deserves a price, a shipping answer or nothing depends on who sent it, so the useful chain is: list conversations, read the thread, read the profile, then draft. An assistant that answers before reading is how a brand sends a catalogue to someone asking about a refund.
“What Instagram DMs came in overnight, and which are real sales questions?”
“Read this conversation, look at who they are, and draft an answer in our tone.”
A hundred actions a day, spaced
Writes are budgeted at a hundred actions per day per account, and every call is serialized with a short random delay so nothing runs in parallel. Instagram reacts to rhythm as much as to volume: a burst of fifty actions in a minute is what draws attention, and the pacing makes it impossible by accident.
What stays yours
Only the accounts you connect are reachable, credentials never leave our side, and reading never authorizes sending. Disconnecting cuts every agent at once. Company billing covers seats and gives no administrator access to a member’s messages.
Common questions
Do I need a Business or Creator account?
No. That requirement belongs to Meta’s Graph API. Nilyo connects the account you already use, whatever its type.
Can the agent answer DMs?
It reads them freely and drafts answers; sending is an explicit action you request. Drafting first is the sane default on a public-facing inbox.
Can it start conversations with people?
Reading and replying inside existing conversations is the normal use. Unsolicited first contact at volume is what gets accounts restricted, which is why the daily budget exists.
Is this browser automation?
No. There is no headless browser on instagram.com; the connection layer speaks the protocol directly and paces every call per account.
How Instagram works with Nilyo
Connection. Secure hosted sign-in on your own Instagram account; a verification code may be requested by Instagram on the provider side, never in the chat.
What your agent can do. Direct messages (read, reply, send), profile lookup, followers and following lists, your own profile.
Pacing and safety. About 100 actions per day per account, calls serialized.
- Instagram limits new conversations with people who do not follow you; the agent says so instead of retrying.
