Why browsing does not work
LinkedIn refuses automated visitors and puts the interesting part — your inbox, your network, search results, who commented on a post — behind authentication. So ChatGPT’s web browsing returns a login wall or a stub. This is not a limitation of ChatGPT that a better prompt fixes; it is LinkedIn refusing, and any tool claiming otherwise is either reading a cached public fragment or driving a logged-in browser somewhere, with the account risk that carries.
What changes once your account is connected
With a connector, ChatGPT stops guessing at a web page and calls explicit actions on your own account: search people and companies, open a profile from a URL, list who you know somewhere, read a conversation, draft and send a reply, send an invitation, read the comments under a post. It sees what you see when you log in — no more, and nothing public it could have scraped instead.

The two questions people actually mean
“Can ChatGPT access LinkedIn” usually hides one of two requests. Either you want it to read a public profile you pasted — that works, through resolution rather than browsing, and you get structured data instead of a half-scraped page. Or you want it to work inside your account: answer messages, track invitations, find people in your network. That second one is the real job, and it is only possible with a connected account.
What it still cannot do
It cannot exceed what your account can do: no private data of people you are not connected to, no Sales Navigator search without a Sales Navigator seat, no bypassing a premium restriction. It cannot send five hundred invitations — a daily budget of about a hundred actions applies, reads included, because LinkedIn punishes volume. And it cannot act on an account you have not connected, which is the point.
Is it safe for the account?
You act as yourself, with your own session, at a human rhythm: calls are serialized, spaced, and capped per day. There is no headless browser signed into your account, which is the usual source of restrictions. The behaviour that gets LinkedIn accounts limited is mass unsolicited contact, and the budget makes that impossible by accident rather than merely discouraged.

No. It can only use the actions exposed to it, on the account you authorized, within what that account can actually do. Reading does not grant writing, and ambiguous writes are blocked rather than guessed.
