Outlook MCP

Outlook MCP for your work mailbox

Microsoft publishes the Graph API, not an MCP server. Third-party Outlook MCP servers wrap it, which means registering an Entra application and, on a company tenant, asking an administrator for consent. Nilyo connects the mailbox with a normal Microsoft sign-in, and the same tools reach your Gmail and IMAP mailboxes.

Is there an official Outlook MCP server?

No. Microsoft publishes the Graph API and no MCP server. The community servers built on Graph need an application registered in Entra ID, a client secret and the right permissions — and on a work tenant, an administrator has to consent before anything runs at all, which is where most of these setups die quietly. Nilyo is hosted: you sign in with Microsoft and the mailbox is connected, with no application to register on your side.

One URL, OAuth, about two minutes

The server is at https://nilyo.com/mcp over streamable HTTP. Add it as a connector in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client and choose OAuth: the client registers itself, opens a browser once, and you sign in and authorize the accounts the agent may reach. No key to generate, nothing to paste into a config file.

A work mailbox is not a personal one

Outlook is where the company’s mail lives, so the questions are different: what came in from this client, which thread was left unanswered, what did we commit to in writing. Folder identifiers are resolved rather than guessed from display names — a folder renamed or moved does not silently become another one — and each action names the mailbox, which matters when a personal and a professional box are both connected.

“What did we commit to with this client, in writing?”
“Which emails from this week are still waiting for my answer?”

Exact windows, not day-rounded ones

Date filtering is exact, so asking for the last six hours returns six hours. On a busy work mailbox the difference is not academic: a digest rounded to the day either buries what is new under yesterday, or misses the message that arrived at 23:50.

“Summarize what arrived since I logged off yesterday.”

Draft in your own drafts

Creating a draft leaves the message in your Outlook drafts, where you read it and send it yourself — the sane default on a professional mailbox where a wrong send is not a private mistake. Attachments are returned as files, so an assistant can read the contract or the invoice before it answers about it.

“Draft a reply confirming the delivery date, and leave it in my drafts.”

Outlook, Gmail and IMAP in one question

Work is rarely one mailbox. Because the same tools cover Microsoft, Google and any IMAP host, a single question crosses them — which is the practical gap left by an Outlook-only MCP server the day a client writes to your other address.

“Did anyone answer about the September order, in any of my mailboxes?”

Common questions

Is there an official Outlook MCP server?

No. Microsoft publishes the Graph API, not an MCP server. Nilyo is a hosted MCP server that connects your Outlook or Microsoft 365 mailbox with a normal Microsoft sign-in, and reaches Gmail and IMAP mailboxes with the same tools.

Do I need to register an app in Entra ID or ask my admin?

No. That is what a self-hosted Graph-based server requires, and admin consent is where most of those setups stall. Here you sign in with Microsoft through a hosted flow.

Does it work with Microsoft 365 work accounts?

Yes, as well as personal Outlook accounts. Each action names the mailbox it runs on, so a personal and a professional box can both be connected without confusion.

Can it read attachments?

Yes. Attachments come back as files, so a contract or an invoice can be read and used in the answer instead of being mentioned as present.

Will it send email on its own?

Sending is an explicit action. Creating a draft is a separate one and the safer default on a work mailbox: the message waits in your own drafts until you send it.

How Email works with Nilyo

Connection. Gmail and Microsoft 365/Outlook through their official sign-in (the “Unipile” name appears on the consent screen: Unipile SAS operates the connection). Any other mailbox through IMAP/SMTP: OVH, Zoho, iCloud, IONOS, Infomaniak, Fastmail, Yahoo, GMX and self-hosted servers.

What your agent can do. Folders and labels, listing and searching messages, reading with attachments, drafts, sending and true replies, moving and labelling, contacts on Gmail and Microsoft.

Pacing and safety. No local budget; provider limits apply. IMAP mailboxes are read live, so listings are paged (50 messages max per page).

  • “How many emails today” uses the folder counts of the mailbox; “today” is a date filter, never a guess.
  • On IMAP a message id changes after a move; Nilyo returns the new id so the agent keeps working on the right message.
