Connect Telegram to Zapier

Zapier’s Telegram integration drives a bot, which cannot message anyone who has not written to it first and appears under its own name. Nilyo connects your own account, so a Zap answers in the conversations you already have.

How to connect

On the Zapier Apps page add an MCP Client connection: Server URL https://nilyo.com/mcp, Transport Streamable HTTP, OAuth Yes. A browser window opens to authorize, using the same Nilyo sign-in ChatGPT and Claude use — no Zapier-specific account, and one connection covers every account you connected in Nilyo.

Bot or account, and why it matters

A bot is the right tool for broadcast notifications to people who opted in by starting a chat with it. It is the wrong one for a Zap that has to reach a client, a supplier or a colleague: it cannot initiate, and a message from a bot named after your product is not the same as a message from you.

Chats, groups and channels are distinct

Listings mark which is which, so a Zap can summarize a group into a ticket without posting in it, or filter to direct conversations only. Chat and message identifiers travel together, because a message id means nothing outside its chat.

Resolve the recipient

Give a name and a resolution step returns the exact conversation, or the candidates when several match. Feeding a display name straight into a send step is how a Zap posts a client update into a family group.

A realistic Zap

A monitoring alert fires; the Zap sends it to the Telegram conversation with the on-call colleague — an existing one-to-one chat, not a bot they would have to find and start first. No local daily cap applies to Telegram; calls are still serialized per account.

Trigger on a message, not on a schedule

Polling Telegram on an interval wastes Zap runs on quiet hours and delays the ones that matter. A realtime destination delivers a new message when it happens, with the chat and message identifiers, so the Zap starts on the event and the schedule is no longer the bottleneck.

“When an alert fires, message the on-call colleague in our existing chat.”
“Summarize a group thread into a ticket without posting in it.”

Common questions

Why not the built-in Telegram bot integration?

Because a bot cannot start a conversation, appears under its own name, and sees only part of a group. Keep it for opt-in broadcasts.

How is Telegram connected?

With a QR code or a phone code, once. An expired session is reconnected on the same account.

Is there a rate limit?

No local daily budget for Telegram here; calls are serialized per account and Telegram’s own limits apply.

How Telegram works with Nilyo

Connection. QR code shown in the conversation (Telegram › Settings › Devices) or a code sent to your phone.

What your agent can do. Chats, groups and channels, message history, sending text and media, reactions.

Pacing and safety. No local budget; calls are serialized per account.

  • Groups and channels appear in the chat list with their type, so the agent can summarize a channel or answer in a group on request.
